internships

In case you haven't heard, the print industry is slowly becoming extinct and so are the available amount of jobs.
When I first went to orientation, one of the professors said that the average employee at the New York Times has 5 internships under their belt. (gulp!)
This is why I'm determined to have an internship every semester from here on out.

Summer 2010 I'll be interning here.

Spring/Summer 2011 I'll be interning here.

and Fall 2010/Winter 2011 I just turned in my application to intern here.

Wish me luck!

All of my ,
Lauren

I fully endorse internships! I had 8 when I graduated. Some were great, some were pure grunt work; however, each one taught me something. Congrats on putting in the hard work now. Trust me, it will pay off.

good luck with the applications lady! internships really are great for figuring out what you want to do and getting some real life experience in the field...

just remember to have fun and enjoy school at the same time! i signed up for every study abroad program i could get my hands on and haven't regretted it for a second!

I was in the same boat...I just worked my butt off and interned every summer but one during undergrad. You might have to start at the bottom but it WILL pay off, promise :) Good luck with your searching!

good luck!

and just a thought, if you're willing to live in nyc for a summer (nyu dorms, other student housing companies, sublet, etc) there are actually a lot of magazine/newspaper/print media internships available. i'm in the same boat now actually - trying to get an internship (i have an interview wednesday - crossing my fingers!) and i just happen to have noticed a lot of those types in my search. anyway just a thought. congrats on the internships you already secured!

I hear ya. I work in Radio which is also kinda going the way of the dinasaur, and I've done at least 4 unpaid internships, and a lot of other free, and not for credit work as well, but it's beginning to pay off. Keep chugging and you'll get to the light at the end of the tunnel

Girl you inspire me! You are on the ball! I always just think I need to get with it when I see what you're doing =) And is the BOP thing serious? That is hilarious. Is NYTimes your end goal? That is legit =)

Thanks guys!
Brooke & Darr, all you have to do is apply. :] and BOP, so serious, I want to check out all parts of the magazine industry, we all know teen boppers are obsessed with glossy pages and pictures of Justin Bieber.

Yes Lauren, the print media is dying, but I wish you could see how your blog and the online publications look on my iPad. They look AMAZING!
