A g-rated kind of day.

New york is so great. The subways, the food, the people, the culture. It's amazing. Today was my last free play day & so I spent it wisely. I went to the Tribeca film festival today and saw Romantics Anonymous. It's my new favorite movie. The music is great, the story is great, the acting is great; and it's in French. & it's about chocolatiers! & it's clean. I feel like most movies that are featured in film festivals are so indie you don't really understand them or they try too hard to be edgy; It's part of the criteria for being in a film festival? Not so with this one. It's a keeper. I promise you won't be disappointed.

Turns out we weren't the only cougars roaming NYC. We found out that Divine Comedy, BYU's sketch comedy group, was performing with the Harvard Sailing Team! If you've never heard of Harvard Sailing Team, may I recommend you watching this. It was so great to have a little piece of Provo join us out here & I was especially happy to see my friend Mallory Everton perform in NYC! The show was amazing, naturally; & the clean humor was just the cherry on top!

Mal's kind of a funny gal. Watch her in DC's California gurls spoof.

8 things I learned while exploring NYC.

1. The Subway system is an intense maze. One that I need to conquer, soon.

2. Indian food is good no matter where you are.

3. You're never too old to shop at Sephora.

4. Candy stores were made for taking ridiculous photos.

5. Times Square is a lot like Hollywood & Highland. Both are places you have to visit at least once and both are extremely overrated.

6. There are way too many statue of liberty related souvenirs.

7. Cupcakes make things a lot cuter.

8. Richard Simmons has wisdom beyond his years.

disneyland with the fam.

My family celebrated Earth Day by going to Disneyland.
I hadn't been since Jan 1, 2010
That's kind of a long time for my family.
We're big Disneyland fans.
When I was younger, my family would ditch school together
& escape to the happiest place on earth.

This time was an especially momentous occasion.
My little brother Ezra decided to take the plunge and
ride a roller coaster for the first time ever.
space mountain.

Cristy Pfiefer.

Meu bom amigo Cristy Pfiefer let me become her personal paparazzi for a couple of days so that I could tell her story as part of my final for my Multimedia Journalism class. Coach (what my Prof. Dr. Randle has us call him) showed us a handful of the "I'm a Mormon" ad campaign videos to inspire us. Everyone has a story and I love sharing people's stories with others.

A bit like the sandlot...

I never cease to be amazed by how long it takes for me to become accustomed to the "humidity" in California. Every time. I especially love flying into the Long Beach airport because not only is it 5 or so minutes away from the ocean, but you get to walk off the plane. Even as I type right now I still have the sensation that I can reach out and touch the moisture in the air. It's not an uncomfortable feeling though, it's pleasant and it makes my skin happy.

I went to Dudie's (Ezra's) baseball game today. It was the perfect summer-is-here welcoming event. I'm convinced that California is perfect. I sat in a lawn chair today being soaked by the rays of the sun with a cool breeze flowing through my hair, eating nachos and being surrounded by parents cheering on their kids. I don't think it gets any better than that...

It's only appropriate...

That I put this song on the blog.
Shoutout to the golden coast!
66° back home & plenty sunny.
In the words of Biggie Smalls,
"I'm going going back back to Cali Cali..."

typo love.

During one of my many little study breaks (you know the ones that are supposed to only take a min or two but turn more into 30), I came across The Phraseology Project. It's become my new favorite read. Basically, anyone can submit a phrase that is under 20 characters and a group of designers comes up with a little creative typography piece to go along with it. I submitted one & I'm hoping my lucky stars that my phrase gets chosen! If it does, I'll be sure to post a picture on the blog. For now, enjoy a few of my faves.

& then there were six...

I finished my first final today!
Visual Communications.
Our final was basically doing a semesters worth of work & putting it into a portfolio.
My entire project was Mexican themed.
I'm awfully fond of my portfolio cover.
If only all of my finals involved creativity...

grand slam.

Friday before finals.
Not only do I have to study, but I have to pack up my condo & get ready for NYC!
Vecina came by with her daughter
(who is semi named after me)
to bring boxes so that I could pack
We also may or may not have gone on a Denny's run.
I felt so blessed to have my adopted family in the same state as me.

Good luck with finals! & life (for those who aren't in college),
P.s. I've decided I'm not wearing makeup till next Wednesday & I'm wearing sweats till I leave Utah.

Reason #1 why i love being from the hood: Slang

I've said many times, Jay-Z is my fav. rapper; east coast I know.
For my final project for Usage, I made a dictionary on Jay-Z terminology.

Here are some of my favs.

guarantee I'll use them in speech. hands down.

I like to look for rainbows...

It rained/snowed on Saturday and to be honest, I was not at all pleased with Utah. I had to wear a turtleneck. A TURTLENECK. In April? California needs to give Utah a 101 crash course on weather. Still, the sky was white, and kind of pretty, pure if you will. The perfect backdrop for the baptism of my first cousin once removed Miriam. I had to google our relationship; I had referred to her as a second cousin before, but I was severely mistaken.

It was so great to see my fam two weekends in a row! Double rainbow all the way! We had a burger buffet with every kind of topping for a burger imaginable (avocado w/ jalapeños jes please!). My family also is way into movies & we or may not have watched three in a row... Tangled, X-Men, X-Men 2, just in case you were wondering. Weekends are the best and it's weekends like these that make me feel super feliz for going to school in Utah.

pizza with a purpose.

i know i say this alot, but i miss freshman year.
but i could have done without the weird visiting hours
my bff would call it "Sunday night booty call."
remember how last time we had a Taylor 1200 reunion
we made a pact to meet every month?

Friday we met for dinner at Malawi's Pizza in Provo.
I had never been, but Jenny raves about it all the time
It was so great to see everyone one last time before the semester is over.
The reunions will continue next fall, but things will be different.
Jenny will be Mrs. Reese.
Jane will be halfway around the world in the Philippines.
& I will be engaged.
